When random promos land in my inbox I’m always a little doubtful especially as many of them don’t relate to genres that even interest me. Thankfully, I took the time to open this little gem and as the blurb was reasonably enticing I downloaded and pressed play.

The intro of classical stabs, flute and piano soon lead into “Justify” an organic/electro dub number which thankfully had a vocal and I would have been pleased as punch to have a whole album like this. The next track “In This Time” however had a distinctive change, this is a down-tempo soulful electronic number almost bordering on R&B which fuses wonderfully with the classical Indian undertone. Moving on the eastern element comes to the forefront with the Arabic themed “Dust”. By the time the title track “Crush” had reached my ears I realised just how wonderfully diverse this album was. Spacey sounds and horns leading into a sixties sound at times reminiscent of the Dave Pike Set’s “Mathar” while the fx on the vocal made me think of the Beatles “Tomorrow Never Comes [sic]”.

This trend of diverse western and world vibes continues throughout the release throwing reggae, chill, funk, hip-hop, drum & bass, African, South American, Asian, Arabic and Gypsy vibes into the melting pot. Micheal Christie (Telepath) has painstakingly utilised the internet with remarkable results sourcing the singers and musicians for this refreshingly unique take on world fusion. My advice to readers is keep your eyes and ears open for Telepath and hopefully you will be as impressed as me.
